World Champion racehorse and sire American Ideal has had a full, or nearly full, book of mares each year since he first went to stud. This year is no exception.
Fresh off a remarkable season at the yearling sales, breeders are choosing the pacing stallion that can get them both top-market yearlings and exceptional performers in major national stakes and in the NYSS program.
His 37 yearlings that were sold in Lexington last fall averaged $51,135 – five times his stud fee – and just as important, they checked in with a $45,000 median price. Four sold for $100,000 and higher, including his $200,000 top seller, Beach Vibes. That handsome colt, from a Somebeachsomewhere daughter of Horse of the Year Rainbow Blue, was consigned by Crawford Farms and purchased by Tony Alagna as agent for Brad Grant.
In all, American Ideal has now produced 45 yearlings that commanded an auction price tag of $100,000 and upward.
With a COVID-shortened 2020 racing season now in the books, American Ideal’s all-time progeny earnings currently stand at an eye-popping $111-million. This past year, with $9,000,000 in earnings, he ranks behind only Captaintreacherous among leading active money-winning U.S. pacing sires.
The sire of 14 worldwide millionaires – and the no. 1 money-winning pacing sire in the New York Sire Stakes 4 of the past 5 years – stands at Blue Chip Farms in New York at a fee of $10,000. Those ready to reserve a booking may do so by
