American Ideal enjoyed yet another tremendously successful run at the recently concluded Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. Once again his yearlings averaged more than five times his stud fee, with four selling between $100,000-$200,000.
Perhaps Murray Brown, longtime publicity director at Hanover Shoe Farms, said it best in writing for the Oct. 11 Harness Racing Update, “Diary Of A Tremendous Week In Lexington:
“The American Ideals continued to sell very well. In terms of consistency, he, in my opinion, has been the best sire—certainly the best pacing sire—in the sale. There have been very few that did not bring a decent price relative to their pedigrees.”
With the four in Lexington, American Ideal has now produced 44 yearlings over the span of his career that have sold for $100,000 and higher.
A significant number of his high sellers have gone on to exceptional careers on the racetrack. World Champion Youaremycandygirl is one of them—a $150,000 yearling that would go on to join her sire’s 14 worldwide millionaires with $1,566,292 on her card.
Speaking of the racetrack, American Ideal was the number one active U.S.-based pacing sire in 2019 overall earnings, and this year he ranks second to Captaintreacherous, with his offspring putting $6,842,531 in the bank.
Among his impressive performers this year is the 2-year-old colt American Courage p,2,1:51.3f ($180,258). This blazingly fast, early season’s record-setter won the MGM Springfield at Yonkers and four straight New York Sire Stakes before an unfortunate break in the final.
If a New York Sire Stakes-eligible pacer with “sky’s the limit” potential is on your radar, keep in mind that there will be 47 American Ideal yearlings on offer at the upcoming Standardbred Yearling Sale at Timonium, Nov. 3-5.
Why settle for less than the best?
