American Ideal is once again the leading money-winning active pacing sire in the U.S., with earnings of $8.7-million already this year. And for the fourth year in a row, he finds himself atop the New York Sire Stakes, with his 2 & 3YOs already making more than $1.3-million in the NYSS alone.
In the past month he has sired the winners of 13 New York Sire Stakes divisions, and through Aug. 7 the winners of a total of 61 NYSS and Excelsior races this year.
His freshmen have been dominant. This past week his 2-year-olds American Rebel and Freedom Warrior swept the NYSS 2YOCP at Yonkers, scoring in 1:54 and 1:54.2, respectively.
Those two are joined by his other freshman NYSS winners Cake Daddy, Merga Hanover, Oreo Dream Xtreme, Turbo Hill, Movie Town and Teton Sunset.
His sophomores include two of the best in the program, Yonkers track record-setter American Mercury p,3,1:49.4 ($248,463) and Vernon track record-setter Shake That House p,3,1:47.4 ($447,297), who crossed the state line and annexed the $500,000 Hempt Memorial at Pocono in late June.
The New York Sire Stakes serve as a lucrative backdrop for a sire whose progeny prove themselves—year after year—in major open stakes and classic races in both the U.S. and Canada.
