Benny J 3,1:53, bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Brittany Farms, took his first lifetime win and new career mark in the fastest division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes 3-Year-Old Colt Trot at the Meadowlands last Saturday night.

 

As the odds-on favorite, he won in 1:53 — 2/5 of a second faster than last year’s 2-year-old champion and this year’s top-ranked 3-year-old Karl, who won his division handily in 1:53.2. It’s much too early to tell, but as the season progresses, perhaps Benny J could be mentioned among the year’s elite sophomore trotters.

 

Benny J, by Walner-Anywhere With You, was hammered down for $255,000 at the 2022 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale to buyer and current owner Ken Jacobs. The colt is trained by Tony Alagana and is driven by Andrew McCarthy.

 

Counting Benny J, his dam Anywhere With You has produced a trio of $100,000-plus yearlings and five stakes horses.
