Two of the year’s best freshmen pacers—both bred by Brittany Farms—swept the $250,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes Finals at the Red Mile last Sunday, as Blue Diamond Eyes won the final for fillies and Perfect Sting for colts.
The filly Blue Diamond Eyes, a dual-eligible who also won the $253,000 Final of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes just two weeks earlier, won the KYSS Final for 2-year-old filly pacers in a career-best equaling 1:51 to increase her earnings to $317,042.
The Captaintreacherous-Aria Hanover lass, owned Tom and Scott Dillon by and trained by Ron Burke, was purchased form the Brittany Farms consignment at last year’s Lexington Selected Sale for $180,000... and she’s already lived up to the price tag.
In fact, by sweeping both lucrative sire stakes finals, she stands as the year’s richest 2-year-old pacer, regardless of sex, with Lexington Grand Circuit stakes and the Breeders Crown still in sight.
The KYSS Final for 2-year-old pacing colts was won by arguably the year’s best 2-year-old colt pacer—certainly the fastest—in Perfect Sting p,2,1:49.2 ($194,400). He possesses a king’s ransom of a pedigree, being from the first crop by Always B Miki and out of 1:47 World Champion Shebestingin (Bettor’s Delight).
Perfect Sting is undefeated in six starts, rambling though his conditions at Pocono and the Meadowlands before winning all three legs plus the final of the KYSS. He is owned by the partnership of Brittany and Val d’Or Farms and trained by Joe Holloway.
More like these are on the way, as Brittany Farms and Brittany & Partners will sell 20 yearlings at the Lexington Selected Sale, Oct. 5-9 at the Fasig-Tipton Newtown Paddocks... all with eligibility to the sire stakes in the state or province in which their sire stands, and to the Kentucky Sire Stakes.
