Captain Kirk, bred and raised by Brittany Farms and sold as a yearling at the 2018 Lexington Selected Sale, will go toe-to-toe with the sport’s top-ranked pacer Tall Dark Stranger when they meet in the championship bout—Saturday’s $1,000,000 North America Cup Final at Mohawk Park.
Captain Kirk p,2,1:51.2; 3,1:48.3, by leading pacing sire Captaintreacherous and from Aria Hanover, won his $50,000 Cup elim with a warp speed stretch drive (LQ :25.4) to earn his way into the final of the sport’s richest event for sophomore pacers. (

“When we straightened away, I kicked the plugs and he just dug and dug and dug. He’s a classy horse,” said driver Bob McClure. Captain Kirk defeated post time favorite Allywag Hanover, with Mayhem Hanover finishing third.
The colt, among the top-priced from Brittany’s yearling consignment that year at $200,000, is owned by the partnership of Marvin Katz, Brad Grant, Captain Kirk Racing and Brittany Farms and is trained by Tony Alagna—of recent Hambletonian fame.
A stakes winner and Metro finalist last year at 2, Captain Kirk earned his speed badge of 1:48.3 winning this term’s Geers Stakes at the Meadowlands. He finished second by a half-length to Tall Dark Stranger in his Meadowlands Pace elim and was also placed in the Cane Pace on Hambo Day. His earnings now stand at $171,302.
Those in the market for top-bred and great-looking Captaintreacherous yearlings should make sure Brittany is on their inspection list.
The farm will see three by The Captain at the Lexington Selected Sale Oct. 5-9, including
Hip 3 Captain Cook, who hails from the immediate family of last year’s champion 3-year-old pacer, Bettor’s Wish.
