Prospects for the Southern Hemisphere’s upcoming breeding season got much brighter after Brittany Farms recently announced that frozen semen from champion pacer Perfect Sting and the late, great trotting sire Cantab Hall will be available there this fall.
Brittany made the joint announcement with well-known Macca Lodge of New Zealand, the farm that will receive shipments from both stallions that will be shipped from the U.S. by frozen semen specialist Select Breeders.
It is to be noted that there is a very limited supply of Cantab Hall semen that will be available, and no more will ever be distributed.
In adding the two stallions to its roster, Macca Lodge’s Brent McIntyre said the farm is “honored to offer horses of this caliber to our customers. Perfect Sting is a beautifully-bred, champion son of Always B Miki, a game changer as a sire, and Cantab Hall, as both a sire and dam sire, has propelled the trotting breed to where it is today. We’re delighted to have them both!”
Perfect Sting p,2,1:49.2; 3,1:48.1 ($1,808,147), both a Breeders Crown and Dan Patch Champion at both 2 and 3, stands in the U.S. at Deo Volente Farms in New Jersey. He was bred to a full book of 140 mares in 2022, his first season at stud, and is booked full again this year. His first foals are receiving rave reviews.
Cantab Hall was a “Trotter of the Year” and Hall of Fame racehorse, who stood at Hanover Shoe Farms before his passing earlier this year. He has produced the winners of more than $116-million and 11 millionaires, with famous sons and daughters led by Father Patrick (sire of highly regarded Greenshoe) and Hambletonian Oaks winners Wild Honey and Lifetime Pursuit.
Brittany Farms and Stallion Management’s Art Zubrod said Macca Lodge came very highly recommended. “They have shown not only exceptional prowess with frozen semen, but their integrity is second to none. We’re looking forward to a very productive relationship,” he said.
Macca Lodge, owned by Brent, Sheree and Caine McIntyre, goes far beyond a stallion base, operating across 600 acres of highly fertile Southland pasture. The property is the largest breeding base and foaling facility in the South Island and provides all that’s necessary to grow young stock into outstanding future racehorses.
The family operation looks to continue well into the future, with son Caine McIntyre taking on a bigger role this season in the overall running of the stud following his stepping up to stud master two years ago.
