Pebble Beach, bred, raised and sold as a Lexington Selected yearling by Brittany Farms, became the season’s fastest 2-year-old pacer by way of his scorching 1:50.1 win in his $40,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes “Championship Division” on Aug. 2 at the Red Mile. (

The victory came in just his third career start, and followed his impressive win at the Meadowlands two weeks prior, when he scored in 1:51.1 after a last half of :55.4, last quarter of :26.4.
The colt is a son of first crop Ohio sire Downbytheseaside (by Somebeachsomewhere) and the first foal from stakes winner Santa Rosa, by Western Ideal. He sold in last fall’s final session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale — for a well-spent $85,000 — to Noel Daley, who trains the colt for the ownership group of Patricia Stable, Joe Sbrocco, Country Club Acres and LA Express & JAF Racing.
This October Brittany will sell Pebble Beach’s Captaintreacherous 3/4-brother,
Cabot Beach (named for the popular provincial park in Prince Edward Island).
With his win last Monday, Pebble Beach joined the Brittany-breds that have won 29 stakes races already this season, with those also including such leading lights as North America’s no. 1 ranked racehorse, $3-million winner Manchego, Dan Patch 2YO Champion Perfect Sting, Adioo Volo winner Blue Diamond Eyes and Reynolds winner and Hambletonian Oaks finalist Piper Hanover.
Your own Brittany-bred stakes winner is just around the corner, as the farm will offer 25 yearlings with championship potential at the Lexington Selected Sale, to be held Oct. 5-9 at the beautiful Fasig-Tipton Newtown paddocks.
